Built for developers, ready for agents: The evolution of Westpac Mesh

In 2017, Westpac Mesh began as an integration platform with 10 APIs. Today it handles more than 400 million requests a day, has moved hosting several times without disrupting delivery teams, and now runs active/active across Azure and AWS. Stephen Hopkins (Chief Architect) and Justin Pang (Head of Developer Enablement) explain the architecture and operating model behind that growth: platforms, components, contracts and patterns, federated ownership and governed reuse. They share the results, including 1.7x engineer productivity and 4.1x component reuse, and what they would do differently. They then show how the same principles are extending Mesh into an Agentic Mesh, where AI agents become owned, governed components.
